Born in Morocco, he moved to Italy in 2004 to join his father, who had moved to the country in 1989 for work. He gained Italian citizenship in 2015. "At first I didn't like it, I was scared, I had left my grandfather in Morocco, whom I was very attached to. I didn't understand a word of Italian.
