Coach Lorenzo Campanelli discovered his talent and introduced him to the sport. "The first year Lorenzo made me try all three throws, shot put, hammer and discus. The second year I concentrated more on the discus and from there it went well immediately. In 2004 I was still in the early stages, sometimes I was doing well, others very badly. Since 2006, however, we have dedicated a lot to this speciality and the minimum for the Europeans has arrived, the Italian title and all the rest." He qualified for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, which was his third attempt to compete at the Games. "It is a dream come true. A few days ago I received the message of confirmation and there I said to myself, 'Now it's all true'. We have been chasing the Olympics for some time, already in 2012 [London] I had reached the standard to be able to participate, but then they didn't call me. In 2016 [Rio de Janeiro] I got injured, I wasn't able to prove what I was worth and this year, with that somewhat unexpected 67m throw, it was a nice surprise to know that I was going to participate in the Olympics."
