Initially interested in basketball, he gave up team sports after trying out race walking for fun. "I was more satisfied with the feeling of individual victory. One day I saw a race walker while I was training at the Sassari stadium. At first it made me laugh a little, but then I became curious. I asked his coach if I could try it too and I liked it.
