EARLY DAYS
Her parents died when she was a young child and she and her sister were raised by their grandmother. "Our relatives told grandma to send us to work but she would refuse, saying we should go to school and study." When she began athletics at school she could not afford shoes and when coach K Kannan asked her to train with him at age 17, she could not afford to travel to training. Kannan helped her gain free admission to a college closer by and coached her for free. "I started seeing a huge difference in my running style. I began winning medals in 100m and 200m competitions. In 2019, the Indian camp in Punjab called me. Even though [coach] Kannan sir got me shoes, I was comfortable running barefoot. Over a period of time, I learned to run with shoes."
