In February 2019 it was announced that the Athletics Integrity Unit [AIU] had stripped him of the gold medal he won in shot put at the 2016 World Junior Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland, after he tested positive for a banned substance. He was also given a backdated four-year ban, which finished on 10 May 2020. Toader had originally finished runner-up behind Poland's Konrad Bukowiecki at the 2016 World Junior Championships, but Bukowiecki was stripped of the gold medal after testing positive for the stimulant higenamine. Following Toader's ban, the gold medal passed to Bronson Osborn of the United States of America, who originally finished third. (insidethegames.biz, 28 Feb 2019)
