General Interest

General
FAMILY INSPIRATION
He says that training with his aunt Mirna Ortiz and her husband Erick Barrondo, who have both represented Guatemala at international level, has inspired his race walking career. "Talking with Mirna about walking gives me great joy knowing that I am not the only one in the family who does sports. We train together and prepare for the Olympics together. She is a great reference for me and has supported me a lot since I started. The simple fact of being on a par with Mirna and Erick in training and competitions gives me a special feeling." (espn.com.gt, 16 May 2021)

DISTANCE CHANGE
In 2019 he switched from the 10km to the 20km event. "I am a novice in the 20km walk but I have always said that I am like a locomotive and that by adding coal we go forward. In each competition, I also go with the desire and joy of knowing that the other competitors recognise that too." (espn.com.gt, 16 May 2021)
