Lindi Schroeder and Anita Alvarez qualified for Tokyo 2020 through their performance at the Olympic qualifying tournament held in June 2021 in Barcelona. Schroeder competed alongside Alvarez in the technical routine and Ruby Remati in the free routine in Barcelona, and finished in fifth place overall to secure the United States of America's ninth Olympic participation in the event.

Alvarez finished in ninth place alongside Mariya Koroleva at the 2016 Games in Rio. In 2019 Alvarez competed alongside Ruby Remati to win bronze at the Pan American Games and place 12th in both the free and technical routines at the world championships in Gwangju.
