General Interest

General
Estefania Alvarez Piedrahita and Monica Sarai Arango Estrada qualified for their second consecutive Olympic Games through the Olympic qualifying tournament held in June 2021 in Barcelona. There were eight Olympic berths available at the tournament, and despite finishing in ninth place, Colombia received a spot in Tokyo as Great Britain had already secured their place at the 2020 Games.

On Colombia's Olympic debut in the event in Brazil in 2016, Alvarez Piedrahita and Arango Estrada did not make the final, finishing in 16th place in the qualification round.

Since the Rio Games, the pair have twice claimed the South American Championships title, winning their first in 2018 and then defending the crown in 2021. At the 2019 Pan American Games, they finished fifth, a repeat of the result they managed at the 2015 edition.
