Sun Wenyan and Huang Xuechen were assured of a berth in the duet competition at Tokyo 2020 courtesy of the People's Republic of China's performance at the 2019 World Championships in Gwangju.

The pair will be looking to go one better in Tokyo after finishing in the runners-up spot in Rio in 2016. They were also both members of the Chinese team that won silver in the team event in Rio in 2016 and London in 2012, with Huang also able to boast a bronze from the team event in 2008.

Sun and Huang claimed the duet title at the Asian Games in 2014 and took silver medals in the free and technical routines at both the 2015 and 2019 world championships.
