General Interest

General
The People's Republic of China have finished on the podium three times at the Olympic Games. The team claimed their first medal, a bronze, in Los Angeles in 1984, before securing gold in front of a home crowd in Beijing in 2008. In Rio de Janeiro in 2016, the team finished with bronze.

The Chinese team secured qualification for Tokyo 2020 by finishing in the top three in the team competition at the 2018 World Championships in Doha, Qatar.

The People's Republic of China have achieved significant success at the world championships, finishing on the podium on 12 occasions. Their sole gold medal came at the 2006 edition of the tournament in Arhus, Denmark, which started a run of seven medals [one gold, three silver, three bronze] in the seven appearances the team made between 2006 and 2018. The run came to an end at the 2019 World Championships in Stuttgart, where they had to settle for fourth place.

At continental level, the team have been largely unbeatable. They have never won anything other than gold in 12 editions of the Asian Games since 1974, and only once failed to reach the top of the podium in six appearances at the Asian championships between 2003 and 2019.
