The 2020 Olympic Games will be Chinese Taipei's second Olympic men's team all-around event. Their only other appearance was also in Tokyo, at the 1964 Games, where they ranked 17th.
They qualified for Tokyo 2020 by finishing sixth at the 2019 World Championships in Stuttgart. It was Chinese Taipei's highest placing at the world championships in 11 appearances. In the final, they recorded the third and fourth-highest scores on the pommel horse and horizontal bar, respectively. Before 2019, their previous highest world championship ranking was 17th in 2018. Before that they had not finished inside the top 20.
Chinese Taipei won bronze at the 2019 Asian Championships in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. It was their first medal in the event at the Asian championships, having finished fourth in 2003 and 2017.
