BREAK
After competing at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and struggling with shoulder and lower back injuries, he took time away from the sport. "I decided to take a rest. I had been in gymnastics for 25 years, and I wanted to have this pause in my career to recover from my injuries." In the meantime he underwent shoulder surgery and in 2017 he took part in the Mexican sports reality TV show 'Exatlon'. At the time he had lost his government grant due to not competing internationally, so funded his own training with the sponsorships he received after his TV appearance. He returned to competition at the 2019 Mexican national championships, with the aim of competing at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
