General Interest

General
Chinese Taipei arrive in Tokyo as reigning world champions after winning gold at the 2019 World Championships in 's-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands. That victory also secured their place at the 2020 Olympic Games.

The Chinese Taipei team have two Olympic medals. They claimed bronze at Athens 2004, and also finished third at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro. In Brazil they lost 5-1 in the semifinals to the all-conquering Korean team, who went on to win gold, before bouncing back to beat Italy to the bronze medal.

At the 2019 World Championships, the Chinese Taipei team overcame the Republic of Korea 6-2 in the final to claim their first world title. Their run through the knockout rounds was impressive, beating France and Belarus without dropping a set before defeating the People's Republic of China 5-1 in the semifinal to set up their historic win in the final. It was their third world championship medal, following silver in 2007 and bronze in 2017.

Chinese Taipei won silver at the 2018 Asian Games after losing to the Korean team in the gold medal match. It was their first medal at the Asian Games since the bronze they won in 2006.
