General Interest

General
Italy will be making their sixth Olympic appearance in women's team recurve at the 2020 Games. They qualified for Tokyo through their performance at the final Olympic qualification tournament, which took place in June 2021 in Paris. They bounced back from defeat to eventual champions Mexico in the semifinals to overcome Spain in the third-place match and book a ticket to Tokyo.

The Italians arrive in Tokyo off the back of their best Olympic performance, a fourth-place finish at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro, where they narrowly missed out on a place on the podium following defeat to Chinese Taipei in the bronze medal match. Their final position of fourth was one place better than their previous best finish of fifth recorded at the 2008 Games in Beijing.

Italy have twice been crowned world champions in the event, claiming gold at the 1999 and 2011 editions of the tournament. At the most recent edition of the tournament in 2019, they defeated Mongolia in the first elimination round but were knocked out by Great Britain in the second round. They finished with an overall ranking of ninth.

At the 2021 European Championships held in Antalya, Turkey, Italy were unable to build upon their silver medal performance at the previous edition of the tournament, held in 2018, and finished ranked fifth. They advanced past Poland in 2021 before their run was ended by eventual gold medallists the Russian Federation. The Italian team have won six medals at the European championships, including one gold in 1996.
