General Interest

General
The Netherlands are competing at their fifth Olympic Games, having made their debut in 1992 in Barcelona. In their two most recent appearances in 2004 and 2016, they were eliminated in the quarterfinals by the Republic of Korea, who went on to win gold on both occasions.

The Dutch men secured their ticket to Tokyo as one of the best eight teams at the 2019 World Championships in 's-Hertogenbosch. They reached the semifinals where they were upset by India, before losing the bronze medal play-off to the Republic of Korea. The Dutch team's best performance at the world championships remains a silver medal in 2013 behind the United States of America, which was their second medal at the tournament following a bronze in 1993. The fourth-place finish in 2019 is the team's best result since 2013.
