General Interest

General
India are competing at the Olympic Games for the sixth time at Tokyo 2020. At their most recent appearance in 2012 in London, they were defeated by Japan in the first round.

The Indian team won a surprise silver at the 2019 World Championships in 's-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands, where they were one of eight teams to qualify for Tokyo. Their run to the final, which they lost 6-2 to the People's Republic of China, was impressive considering they were ranked 11th after the qualification round. It was India's second world championship medal after they also won silver in 2005.

They reached the quarterfinals at the 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia, where they were defeated by the Republic of Korea. They have not won a medal at the tournament since a bronze in 2010. They also won bronze at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi.
