General Interest

General
The Indonesian men's archery team secured one of the last three Olympic berths on offer at the final world qualifier held in Paris in June 2021. They beat Bangladesh, Italy and Ukraine in the knockout rounds to book their ticket to the 2020 Olympic Games. With their place in Tokyo already confirmed, the Indonesian team lost to the United States of America in the final in Paris.

Tokyo will be Indonesia's second participation in the event at the Olympic Games, following their debut appearance at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro. In Brazil they placed 10th in the ranking round, before victory over Chinese Taipei and defeat to the US team saw them finish with an overall ranking of sixth on debut.

Their recent Olympic exploits come as something of a surprise, however, as Indonesia have never finished in the top-20 at the world championships. Their highest finish is 24th, which they achieved at the 2005 and 2011 editions, and they ended the 2019 edition in 32nd.

At continental level Indonesia have claimed two medals at the Asian Games, bronze in 1978 and silver in 1982, but a fourth-place finish in 2011 is the closest they have come to the podium at the Asian championships.
