General Interest

General
The British men's team are returning to the Olympic Games for the first time since 2012 when, as hosts, they were eliminated by Ukraine in the first knockout round. Great Britain secured their spot at Tokyo 2020 by progressing to the quarterfinals at the 2019 World Championships, where they were eliminated by eventual bronze medallists the Republic of Korea.

Great Britain finished third when the team event was first contested at the Olympic Games in 1988, and won bronze again four years later in Barcelona. They made their only other Olympic appearance in Beijing in 2008, where they were eliminated in the first knockout round.

The British men last made a world championship podium when they won silver in 2007 behind the Republic of Korea. Their other five world championship medals [two silver, three bronze] all came between 1933 and 1969.
