General Interest

General
The People's Republic of China are the reigning world champions, having won gold at the 2019 World Championships in 's-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands. They claimed their first world title by overcoming 11-time world champions, the Republic of Korea, in the semifinals before beating India in the gold medal match. Their performance also secured their spot at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

The Chinese men's team have competed at seven editions of the Olympic Games prior to Tokyo, and won their only Olympic medal, a bronze, as hosts in Beijing in 2008. They came close to a second medal when they finished fourth at the 2016 Games, falling to a semifinal defeat against the United States of America and a 6-2 loss to Australia in the bronze medal match.

They claimed bronze at the 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia, having won their first Asian Games gold medal at the previous edition in 2014 in Incheon.
