Her husband Florian Unruh has also represented Germany in archery. The pair won a silver medal in the recurve mixed team event at the 2017 World Championships in Mexico City, Mexico. "I actually wanted to be an Olympic swimming champion and swam competitively between the ages of five and 13. In fifth grade I joined a sports school, but within a year, I no longer had the prospect of success in swimming. My mum started to investigate which sport would be good for me, and the swimming coaches told her that the archery section was looking for people. I told her she was crazy, as I wanted to do a real sport. But I tried it and stayed, which was the best decision of my life. To be able to practise this sport fills me with pride and joy." POSITIVE POSTPONEMENT
She says the postponement of the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo revived her chances of competing after she underwent surgery on her right shoulder in November 2019. "Looking back I don't think I would have been able to compete if the Games had not been delayed. I had a shoulder operation and my performance was not where it could have been. "I think it is a big advantage to have a fellow athlete as a partner, because when I look at how much time we spend away, it is hard to maintain a private life and a partner.
