General Interest

General
The Japanese 3x3 basketball team qualified for the 2020 Olympic Games as hosts.

On the world stage Japan's men have competed at four editions of the World Cup, with a best finish of 11th in 2016. At the 2019 edition they won games against Poland and Brazil but defeats to Latvia and Australia meant they failed to progress to the knockout stage and they finished ranked 14th overall.

Japan have competed at all four editions of the Asia Cup, achieving a best finish of third at the competition in 2018. That year they were beaten at the semifinal stage by eventual champions Australia, but were able to clinch third by narrowly defeating New Zealand 21-20. At the most recent edition of the Asia Cup in 2019 they were once again knocked out by eventual winners Australia, this time at the quarterfinal stage.

They finished fifth at the 2018 Asian Games after a quarterfinal exit at the hands of Thailand.
