General Interest

General
The People's Republic of China qualified for the 2020 Olympic Games through the world rankings list. They arrive in Tokyo having claimed gold at the 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia, where they beat Republic of Korea 19-18 in a dramatic overtime final.

The Chinese team placed third at the 2019 Asia Cup after a semifinal defeat to Australia and a third-place match victory over Kazakhstan. It was their first time on the podium at the tournament after finishing both the 2017 and 2018 editions in fifth place.

They are yet to translate their continental success to the world stage, with a 15th-place finish their best result in three World Cup appearances since 2014. At the 2019 World Cup they lost all four of their group matches to France, Slovenia, Qatar and Lithuania to finish ranked 19th overall.
