September 2017: Broke left wrist after colliding with a tractor during inline skating training. Competed at Olympic qualification with arm in a splint, winning silver in the 1500m.
Parents taught him how to skate in a ditch on his family’s farm in Lekkerkerk. Began speed skating at age seven in Krimpenerwaard. Started taking lessons with coach Dave van Dam at the STV Lekstreek skating club at age 10. (trouw.nl, 11 Jan 2019)
