September 2017: Broke left wrist after colliding with a tractor during inline skating training. Competed at Olympic qualification with arm in a splint, winning silver in the 1500m.

FARMER
Works at his father's farm in Lekkerkerk, and spent most of his time there during the Covid-19 pandemic. "I have been at home a lot in recent months and helped a little at my parents' farm in Lekkerkerk. I recently bought a large piece of grassland for the company, close to our house. A nice investment, which I was able to make thanks to my prize money." (ad.nl, 31 May 2020)

PARTNER
Dating German speed skater Victoria Stirnemann, who competed at the Lausanne 2020 Youth Olympic Games, finishing fourth in the 1500m. Victoria is the daughter of German speed skater Gunda Niemann-Stirnemann, who won eight Olympic medals (three gold, four silver, one bronze) and eight World Championships titles. CLUB
Despite being a professional skater and one of the top distance skaters, he still occasionally races for his club Lekstreek, trying to help them win the Dutch club championships.
