"There's a natural ice rink behind my parents' house. (...) Whenever there was natural ice, I've gone there since the time I could walk. My primary school organised races, which is how I got to do that. (...) I've loved the sport since I was about eight: you need to manage many factors to skate well, and require different training approaches. There's speed and how to increase it in the curves. That's what kept me going since I was young." (schaatsen.nl, 2 Sep 2017)
"I want to go for the highest possible, it's what keeps me going, gives me drive and motivation. The Olympics attract me. And as long as I'm skating, I can make it." (schaatsen.nl, 4 Oct 2021)
