OFF THE TEAM
In summer 2019, he was suddenly left off the national team. Kuzin did not like Dmitry Babenko's coaching approach and asked to train separately. According to Kuzin, he was then expelled from the team. Despite this, he managed to win the national title in the 1000m and qualify for the international circuit that season. (time.kz, 10 July 2019)

ORPHANED
He had a tough time as a junior: "I don't have parents, my grandmother raised me. She couldn't always afford to buy sneakers, skates. People switched to new skates, and I skated old ones until we somehow raised money. Frankly speaking, my grandmother, Svetlana Grigorievna Karachentseva, did the most for me in sports."
