General Interest

NATIONALITY
Born in the Netherlands to a Dutch father and British mother. Was the Dutch junior champion sprint in 2014, but decided to represent Great Britain instead. (Schaatsseizoen 48, 2020)

OLYMPIC FUNDING
Together with his partner, he founded a coffee company called Brew'22, as a means to supplement funding their travel and training. The idea for the company arose due to the difficulty of finding good coffee while abroad for competition or training. "Whilst in Japan, we came across an innovative product, a single cup filter which enabled us to choose our own coffee bean, grind it and therefore travel with our own coffee." Their coffee flavours include Trailblazer, Underdog, Powerhouse, Dreamcatcher and One of a Kind. (brew22.com, 2021)

LONG WAY HOME
In July, after a training camp in Inzell, Germany, Kersten and teammate Lex Dijkstra, joked about riding their bicycles home. Trainers Tijssen and Poltavets pressed them to stick to their word, and they did. It took them four days to reach their homes in Heerenveen. (schaatsen.nl, 3 Aug 2021)
