General Interest

TWO-YEAR RETIREMENT
After the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games, she left the national team to try and fully recover from her 2016 hip injury but was unsuccessful, and so she retired from competition. Encouraged by national team coach Johan de Wit (NED), she decided to make a comeback after two years. In October 2020, she marked her return by claiming the Japanese 3000m title. She was called up to the national team for the 2021/22 season following selection trials. "I'm honestly happy to be back here. I was able to give everything again." (nikkansports.com, 23 Oct 2020)

FIFTH TEAM MEMBER
Due to continued trouble caused by the hip injury, sustained in 2016, she was removed from the Japanese pursuit team, with which she had won two silver medals at the World Championships. As an unofficial "fifth member", she kept supportive of the team, particularly when they won gold at the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games. After the award ceremony, her teammate and friend since high school, Miho Takagi (JPN), hung her gold medal around Oshigiri's neck to honour her contribution to the team.
