January 2021: Muscle injury during a race at the final World Cup stage in Heerenveen, causing him to withdraw from the second day of comeptition. Returned for the World Championships in February.
January 2021: Contracted COVID-19 forcing him to miss the European Championships in Heerenveen.
November 2019: Twisted right ankle. Missed the opening three stages of the World Cup. Returned in mid-December at the Nagano World Cup.
June 2018: Knee surgery.
December 2016: Groin injury forced him to miss the 2017 European Championships in January.
Mid 2015: Broken clavicle during summer training.

Started speed skating at age 12 in Kolomna. (isu.org)
An avid gamer as a teenager, his father tried to get him to participate in sports and took him to the then recently opened speed skating rink in Kolomna. Although he also tried out for ice hockey, he eventually favoured speed skating.
Initially, his father need to stimulate him financially. "He was lying on the couch, and I'm told, 'We have to go, Pasha,' and he replied, 'I don't want to.' Then I added a little incentive.
