Brother Timur Zakharov (Short track speed skating): Competed for Russian Federation at the Winter Universiade (2015).
Short track speed skating: Won gold in the relay at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games. He is also a three-time European champion in the relay (2013, 2014, 2015) and was third overall at the 2011 Europeans.
