General Interest

TEAM PURSUIT INCIDENT
During the team pursuit quarterfinals at the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games, teammate Noh Seon-Yeong dropped the pace. This was not noticed by Park and fellow teammate Kim Bo Reum, resulting in the second-slowest time and elimination from medal contention. There were suspicions that Park and Kim had done this deliberately, especially as in post-race interviews, Noh also claimed to have been bullied by her teammates, notably Kim. More than 600.000 Koreans then signed a petition to have Kim and Park removed from the team, and a sponsor terminated their contract with Kim. The Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism even conducted an audit into the situation, eventually concluding that Noh had not been deliberately dropped during the race.
