When he won a silver medal in the team pursuit at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games at 16 years and 245 days, he became the youngest ever male speed skater to win an Olympic medal (Anne Henning and Andrea Mitscherlich were younger). He is also the youngest Korean man to win any Olympic medal (in any sport), with just three Korean women who were younger (all short track skaters).
