General Interest

DISAPPOINTMENTS AND BOUNCING BACK
In the 2018 Olympics, despite winning gold with the team pursuit, Sverre Lunde Pedersen feels he could have done better. In the 5000m, he missed silver by two thousandths of a second, while in the 1500m he had a misstep due to poor ice conditions left by a previous skater. And after the Games, his luck turned even worse: At the 2018 World Allround Championships, held in the Amsterdam Olympic Stadium, Pedersen seemed set to win his first-ever world title. With just the 10000m to skate, he had a comfortable lead and seemed set to win the first Norwegian gold in the event since 1994, but at two thirds, his left skate got stuck after his right leg, and he fell. "It happened so fast, I don't know what happened. I rarely ever fall. I don't know what to say". The following season he countered with his first individual world title, beating all in the 5000m at the 2019 World Single Distance Championships. "It's insane. It hasn't really landed. The way I did it... it was amazing. Everything went well and I never lost speed." In Beijing, he aims to do the same. (nrk.no, 7 Feb 2019; nos.nl, 11 Mar 2018; vg.no, 22 Jun 2020)
