General Interest

GOING DUTCH
Briefly joined a Dutch commercial team for the 2015/16 season, headed by Dutch Olympic champion Ireen Wust. It was initially sponsor-less and named Team4Gold, but later found a sponsor. This was a financially uncertain move for Beckert, who lost his army athlete status and income. When he left the team again in 2016, he could not return to the Bundeswehr (Germany Army). "The step I made at the time was important and right. In the year in the Netherlands, I closed the gap with the world's best." Afterwards, Beckert started training with his brother Pedro under Canadian coach Gabriel Girard. (sporthilfe.de, 2017)

NO SIGNAL
Missed a chance to race in the 10000m at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games as his phone turned off. With Enrico Fabris (ITA) not starting, alternates were called up, and like the first three alternates, Beckert was not reachable. He did get into contact 15 minutes before the start, leaving insufficient time to reach the rink. (bleacherreport.com, 25 Feb 2010)
