December 2019: Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) rupture at the second World Cup event of the season in Cervinia and missed the entire 2019/20 season. Returned in January 2021 at the World Cup in Chiesa Valmalenco.
Age 15: Meniscus tear in his knee and was sidelined for five months. (owia.org, Jul 2017)
First used a snowboard at 22 months old before taking up the sport properly at age four at the Perisher Winter Sports Club in New South Wales, Australia. Started competing in 2008 at age 10 after his friends invited him to join their team for the regional interschool race. Took up snowboard cross at age 17 after a knee injury forced him to give up slopestyle at age 15. (adam-lambert-snowboarding.com.au, 2017; owia.org, Jul 2017; owia.org, May 2020;
Because of the huge range of styles that different people bring to the sport. "I’m not the tallest bloke in the world, sitting at a pretty average 1.73cm, and I compete against a field of men that average around 183-185 cm, because of this I have to use different tactics to these guys. Where they may be able to pump a section, I might have to jump them because my legs aren’t quite long enough to absorb the feature. This adds a whole other element to the sport for me and forces me to think outside the box." (owia.org, May 2020)
Childhood ambition was to be the best in the world, as it still is today. (owia.org, May 2020)
First time qualifying for the World Cup final (Feldberg 2017). "I finished qualification in 29th out of 32 places, I ended up finishing the race in seventh place which flicked a switch in my brain as I had shown myself that I could compete at the highest level, and not just be an extra number in the background." (owia.org, May 2020)
Short track speed skater Stephen Bradbury (AUS), 2002 Olympic champion (1000m), 1991 World champion (5000m). "He showed the world that you have to be in it to win it. Just because you think you might be at a disadvantage, for whatever reason, it is no excuse not to give something your all, you can always surprise yourself." (owia.org, May 2020)
Snowboarder, Alex "Chumpy" Pullin, three-time Olympian and two-time World champion teammate who drowned while spearfishing in July 2020. In a tribute, Lambert said, "You inspired, you led, and most importantly you loved what you did. Over the years you became more than just an inspiration, more than just an idol, you became a friend. You were one of the greats, and you will be remembered." (lambobacktosnow.com, Jul 2020)
