Sister Cassie (Freestyle Skiing): Won gold in halfpipe at PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Games, five-time X Games medallist (two-time halfpipe champion), competing at Beijing 2022 in halfpipe.
2012 World Cup in Stoneham (Big Air - 28th)
Fall 2020: Knee injury. "After tearing my knee I didn’t know how this season would all play out. I was stressed. After working out with the incredible help of Jeremy Sheppard for eight months almost straight, physio from Therese Leigh daily, lots of hot and cold baths we got me back on snow and feeling strong and confident this fall." (Instagram, 20 Jan 2022)
2017: Broke ankle. Was sidelined for most of the competitions and kept him from making the Canadian 2018 Olympic team. "Canada is the best country in slopestyle, so we’ve got six guys that should be there and they’re only going to take four, and unfortunately because of an injury I missed three-quarters of the qualifying events. That was really devastating." (thestar.com, 27 Jan 2018)
Started skiing at age four, snowboarding at age eight. He grew up in Comox, BC where his dad works at Mount Washington Alpine resort. Made the move to Whistler at a young age to train with the Whistler Valley Snowboard Club. (canadasnowboard.ca, 20 Jan 2022)
Prefers the technical nature of slopestyle, especially rails, better than big air. "I almost don't do big air sometimes because I get bummed on that fact. These guys have some heavy-hitting tricks. I like to think of myself as a slopestyle guy. Big air is just kind of stunting to me." (forbes.com, 26 Jan 2020)
During pre-winter season (Sep, Oct and Nov) he trains on European glaciers (Saas Fee, Switzerland and Stubai, Austria).
Winning gold in slopestyle at X Games in 2020. "I couldn't help but just feel so happy. As a kid growing up this was the highest you could go in the sport. This medal means the world, this is as good as it gets. I'm tripping, it's amazing." (X Games YouTube, 24 Feb 2020)
"I don’t mind being a punk. Punk are most snowboarders I’d say. We’re all just free spirits doing what we want and most of us have gotten where we are today just following a path that is not linear that a kid or a young adult should take. It is so important for kids to know that everyone is so judgemental in the world and you don’t have to listen if you are following your dreams and just following who you are and it doesn’t necessarily conform with who people want you to be in school society or life, but if you’re happy that is what matter and it will probably work out." (Snowbeat TV show, Oct 2020)
