FROM OHIO TO COLORADO
Living in Cleveland, Ohio, didn’t allow for a whole lot of snowboarding. It wasn’t until the winter of 2007/08 when his mother’s love for the mountains could wait no longer, that the family decided on a trial move to Breckenridge. 2018 OLYMPIC GOLD
After sleeping in on the day of the competition and losing his official US Olympic team jacket, won slopestyle gold riding in a borrowed jacket from his roommate Kyle Mack (USA). (xgames.com, 21 Sep 2018)

"We’ve all heard the stories. I woke up late, lost the jacket, et cetera, et cetera. But what really happened was I hit snooze a couple times. I was not late. I did borrow Kyle Mack’s jacket. But the rest of the morning went like any contest day. Warm up, know my run, and just try to land. It worked real good on my last run, and that’s still the most surreal feeling I have ever had." 2018 OLYMPIC WINTER GAMES LAST RUN
Was standing in only 11th position after the first two runs of the PyeongChang 2018 slopestyle final, and made it to the top with his third and last run. "All the guys out there are genuinely pushing the sport higher and higher each day, and the level of competition was insane. But basically my brother (Malachi) and I had a plan, and it worked." - "PyeongChang was an incredible opportunity to see the world stage and come together with my team to progress snowboarding and represent the US." HISTORIC ACHIEVEMENT
At the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games, won gold in the slopestyle at age 17 years and 227 days to become the second youngest man to win gold in an individual event at the Winter Games, after Toni Nieminen (16 years and 261 days) won gold in the individual large hill event in ski jumping in 1992. Gerard is also the first medallist at the Olympic Winter Games born after 01 Jan 2000, and the youngest gold medallist in any snowboarding event at age 17 years and 227 days. (Info 2018)
