General Interest

NATIONAL FIRST
He became the first snowboarder to represent Ireland at the Olympic Winter Games when he competed at the 2014 edition in Sochi. (Info 2018)

REPRESENTING IRELAND
Even though he was born in the United States of America, he was also eligible to represent the Russian Federation through his mother Elena, and Great Britain through his father Kevin. He made the decision to compete for Ireland as his grandparents were born there, and he believed he would have a better chance of qualifying for the Olympic Winter Games. "When Sochi was nominated for the 2014 Games, my father thought it would be quite poetic if a US-born athlete could represent Ireland competing in my mother's homeland. It all kind of came together and I thought it was a good idea." (Info 2018)

2018 PYEONGCHANG 18TH-PLACE FINISH
Finished 18th of the 29-man final at the PyeongChang Games and commented following the event: "Obviously I would like things to have gone a little better but I’m down here at the bottom of the pipe in one piece with a smile on my face in my second Olympics so I can’t complain."
