Started at age nine on the San Pietro in Val di Funes slopes, after his sister lent him her snowboard. (pyeongchang2018.coni.it, Jan 2018)

:

Loves to shred down the slopes with a lot of speed. "I love carving with full speed on beautiful mountains, enjoying nature, and exploring where my limits are even now when I’m 40-year-old."

"Parallel snowboarding is all about being at the top of your game, if you are in a head-to-head within inches of your opponent you have to be mentally superior, and that’s what I like about this sport, the combination of physical and mental condition. If you don’t have that you end up in 25th or 30th place." (Snowbeat TV magazine, December 2019; fis-ski.com, Nov 2020)

:

To participate in the Milano-Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games "because that would mean for me to compete at the Olympics on homesoil twice, after Torino 2006. And it'd also be a dream to be there at 46 years old." (fanpage.it, Feb 2021)

:

The most important factor to win the 2020 Overall Crystal Globe was the hard work over the summer, as he tested different boards and found a setup that works perfectly with his style of riding.

:

Winning gold at the 2015 Kreischberg World Championships in parallel slalom and the 2020 Overall Crystal Globe. "I’ve always dreamt of winning the overall globe because it means that you are the best in that season. In Italy, there are many athletes that have medals from big events like the Olympic Games or World Championships, but there are only a few who won the World Cup big globe." (fis-ski.com, Nov 2020)

:

Reinhold Messner (ITA), mountaineer and explorer. Hometown hero.

Felix Baumgartner (AUT), skydiver, daredevil, and base jumper.

Racecar driver Michael Schumacher (GER), Formula 1 driver, joint-record seven World Drivers' Championship titles. (pyeongchang2018.coni.it, Jan 2018)

:

His first coach Eric Pramsohler was his idol when he started snowboarding and now he's one of his best friends. "He had long hair and a stunning car and a beautiful girlfriend and I said to myself ‘I want to be like him one day’. I managed with the car and the fiance but not with the hair (Fischnaller is almost bald)." (FISI TV YouTube, Dec 2020)

:

"In the situation when almost every day you hear some bad news, I was just saying to myself 'Roland every day is a good day so stay happy'." (fis-ski.com, Nov 2020)

General Interest

FIRST RACE
The first time he saw a race live was at the Snowboard World Championships in San Candido in 1997. "I got the chance to be a forerunner as I was a junior in my region and it was an incredible emotion I’ll never forget it." (FISI TV YouTube, Dec 2020)

FIRST WORLD CUP RACE
His first World Cup race was in Plan de Corones in 1997, but he only managed to do a few gates. "I was too hyped up and I think I exploded after 10 gates and I had to be freed from the safety nets." (FISI TV YouTube, Dec 2020)

FIRST WORLD CUP WIN
The first time he won a World Cup race was in 2010 in Limone Piemonte, Italy. "I still remember all the gates of the whole course, and at the time I said to myself that 'if I don't win now then I never will,' so I managed to get my first victory when I had just turned 30." (FISI TV YouTube, Dec 2020)

DISCO AND PARTY LOVER
For the past eight years, he has flown to Belgium in mid-July to partake in the huge party Tomorrowland as he loves festivals and being in the middle of a sweaty crowd. "Unfortunately last year we only had a virtual edition of Tomorrowland because of COVID-19 restrictions, so me and my friends rent a disco and we connected the digital edition of the party to the sound system and enjoyed Tomorrowland remotely." (Snowbeat TV Magazine, Dec 2020)

TRAVELLING WITH PURPOSE
When he got onto the national team 23 years ago his first goal was travelling around the world and partying as much as possible. "Now it’s changed a lot, I am a professional athlete, almost everyone is in military sports groups, and also for that the results are counting." (Snowbeat TV Magazine, Dec 2020)

INSPIRATION
He really likes the fact that he can be an inspiration for younger generations. "If I were to give some advice to a kid that wants to start out, I’d tell them to get a good instructor and some decent equipment, in three hours they’ll be able to snowboard." (Snowbeat TV magazine, Dec 2019)
