Started snowboarding in his home resort Silvretta Montafon at age nine. His older brother received a snowboard as a Christmas present and he followed him into the sport. "He got a snowboard. As soon as I saw him standing on the board, I wanted to imitate him." (Info 2018)
Started with snowboarding freestyle disciplines and focused on them at the beginning of his career. "I never really liked the system of being judged by others and somehow being dependent on others if I would win a comp or not. In SBX you have a straight result, raw racing action, first down at the finish wins. I loved that and the tracks to race, that's why I switched my focus on SBX only when I was 16 years old."
