Started at the age of eight, joining a ski jumping club after she saw Japanese ski jumper Izumi Yamada on TV. "I was frightened at first, but once I jumped, I found it was fun. It is just like being a bird." (Info 2018; kuraray.co.jp, Aug 2021)

OLYMPIC WINTER GAMES
In her third Olympic Winter Games appearance, she finished fourth behind Slovenia's Nika Kriznar, just like in her debut in the inaugural Olympic women's ski jumping event, where she finished fourth, 2.2 points behind bronze medallist Coline Mattel (FRA).

In her second Olympic Winter Games, at PyeongChang 2018, she won the bronze medal in the woman's normal hill event.

Won the inaugural Youth Olympic Winter Games gold medal at Innsbruck in 2012, ahead of Katharina Althaus (GER) and Ursa Bogataj (SLO).

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
Seven medals at six World Championships (2011-21), winning four individual (2013 and 2021 silver, 2017 and 2021 bronze), and three with the team (2013 gold, 2015 and 2017 bronze).

Five-time junior World champion winning three consecutive golds individually (2012, 2013, 2014) and two team (2012, 2014).

WORLD CUP
Has competed in the World Cup since it was established for women in the 2011/12 season. In 2012/13 she became the youngest female ever to win the overall World Cup. (redbull.com, 16 Aug 2021)

Has won the overall World Cup four times (2012/13, 2013/14, 2015/16, 2016/17), and was second in 2020/21. Holds the record for individual World Cup wins with 61, her first being in Zao in 2012 (normal hill).

2021/22:
Second overall in the Summer Grand Prix 2021 with four podium results. In the winter season, she has finished every race in the top eight, but only once on the podium - her 61st World Cup win in Ljubno. She is currently ranked sixth in the overall World Cup.
