He is a third generation ski jumper in his family, after his father and grandfather.

As a kid, he adored ski jumper Janne Ahonen (FIN), two-time Olympic team silver medallist (2002, 2006), finished fourth three times in Olympic individual normal hill events (1998, 2002, 2010), two-time individual world champion (1997, 2005), three-time world team champion (1995, 1997, 2003), 36 World Cup wins, and two-time winner of the overall World Cup (2003/04, 2004/05).
