Oberstdorf is traditionally the start of the Four Hills Tournament (the event composed of four World Cup events in Germany and Austria each year since 1953), so ski jumping was always present and available to him, and one day he joined the local ski jumping club. (karl-geiger.de)

Milestones

OLYMPIC WINTER GAMES
Bronze medallist in the Beijing 2022 large hill event. Finished 15th in normal hill and ninth in the mixed team event with Selina Freitag, Constantin Schmid and Katharina Althaus (after Althaus had been disqualified for a suit violation, Germany did not make the cut for the final round of the top eight).

Bronze medallist in the large hill team event 2022, together with Markus Eisenbichler, Stephan Leyhe, and Constantin Schmid.

Made his Olympic Winter Games debut at PyeongChang 2018, where he won the silver medal in the large hill team event and ranked seventh (large hill) and 10th (normal hill) individually.

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
Four-time team gold medallist, winning each team event in which he competed (two in 2019, two in 2021). Individually, he reached the podium in all events with one exception (normal hill in 2019), winning silver medals in large hill 2019 and normal hill 2021, bronze in large hill 2021.

In the 2020 Ski Flying World Championships, he won individual gold and team silver medals.

Competed at the 2013 Junior World Championships, winning the team bronze medal (seventh in individual).

FOUR HILLS TOURNAMENT
In ten career Four Hills Tournaments, he was third in 2019/20, second in 2020/21, and fourth in 2021/22.

Even though Oberstdorf is a ski jumping hot spot, when he won in 2020/21, he became only the second local ski jumper to do so (61 years after Max Boklart.) (olympics.com, 29 Dec 2020; deutscherskiverband.de)

WORLD CUP
In his tenth World Cup season now, he stands at 32 podium finishes, and 13 individual victories. The first of his individual World Cup wins was in Engelberg in 2018 (large hill).

Best season to date was 2019/20 when he had 11 podium finishes and finished second in the overall World Cup.

Started the winter season 2021/22 with winning the season opener (large hill) in Nizhny Tagil. This marked his third consecutive World Cup win after winning the last two competitions of the last season. He continued the season with three more wins, five second places and one third, 10 podium finishes in total.

Currently leading the overall World Cup, three points ahead of Ryoyu Kobayashi (JPN).
