While watching the skeleton competition from the Salt Lake 2002 Olympic Winter Games on television with her grandfather, he turned to her and said “They’re crazy”; she immediately knew it was something she needed to try. "I knew from right then that I needed to try it. Not to spite him, but because he said it was crazy I knew I needed to do it." Given her prowess as a sprinter, she was already on the radar for Bobsleigh Canada and in 2009 she attended two national bobsleigh camps in Canada but was told she would need to gain 30 pounds in weight to be considered for selection, so she decided to pursue skeleton instead. She was further inspired by Canadian Jon Montgomery winning gold at Vancouver 2010 and moved to Whistler (BC) in the winter of 2011, without ever having even tried the sport. That need for speed was something she had always felt as a varsity sprinter at Simon Fraser University, feeling most free when she was running as fast as possible. It was a feeling she had relied on to get through one of the most difficult periods of her life after her boyfriend passed away suddenly in November 2009. (olympic.ca)

PERSONAL LOSS AND SUPPORT
In 2009, while swimming laps in the Simon Fraser University pool, her boyfriend Bernd Dittrich (the school's football quarterback from Vienna, Austria) was found unconscious at the bottom of the pool, and rushed to hospital passing away the following day. It was later determined that he had a previously undetected heart condition. She has his football number 7 (flanked by two wings) etched on the front of her helmet as a tribute to him. "The support SFU gave me during the loss of my boyfriend and SFU Quarterback, Bernd Dittrich, back in 2009 was incredible and helped me get to where I am today. It makes me so proud to be an SFU alumni and a part of this amazing community." (cbc.ca; 8 Nov 2017; sfu.ca)

"Legacy Baby," a moniker coming from her status as the first elite racer who began her career on the Whistler track that was created for the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games. “(Legacy Baby) sounds so epic, and I really want to live in those footsteps. I’m doing my best, I guess.”

"Brush Face,” after her scary-looking but harmless collision with a big broom dropped by a track worker during a 2015 World Cup/European Championships run in Igls, Austria. The video of the incident went viral. (nsnews.com, 15 Jan 2016)

Silver medallist in the mixed team relay at the 2020 World Championships in Altenberg, missing out on a first-place by one-hundredth of a second in with veteran teammate Dave Greszczyszyn. “Relays take me back; they’re so much fun. Just that feeling of wanting to do well because of that other person. It was an incredible feeling to get to experience that with a teammate and a friend.” (49-sport.com, 2 Jan 2021)

In her only World Cup start in 2021, she won a bronze medal in Konigssee, posting the second-fastest start times in both heats. It was the fourth podium of her career (two silvers, two bronzes) and first since 2017. Finished third overall on the World Cup circuit (2015/16).
