Concussion. "It was the hardest part of my career. I’m a lot more conscious about what my head is doing and feeling now. I will continue to sit out races where the track is too bumpy." (slidingonice.com, 28 Jun 2021)
2012
Her Olympic dream came about from stories of her uncle competing at them, and watching the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. Thinking she'd be a summer Olympian, that all changed when she joined the Australian bobsleigh squad in Europe in 2011, where she met the national skeleton coaches who convinced her to make the switch. Took her first ride on a skeleton sled in March 2012, making her skeleton World Cup debut at the end of 2014. (owia.org; jaclynnarracott.com)
Family genetics for speed. "Everyone on Dad's side of the family had been quick and it turned out that I wasn't bad either. There's just something about that feeling of speed that had me hooked. Oh, and the competitiveness of racing, especially against the boys!" (bobsleighskeleton.org)
To be an Olympic champion. (owia.org)
Trains at the University of Bath (GBR). Most recently spent the bulk of the COVID-19 season training in PyeongChang (KOR). (slidingonice.com, 28 Jun 2021)
"My seventh place in Lake Placid was pretty cool, mostly because it came a little out of the blue. Going down Pyeongchang the first time was pretty cool, too. Also, Winterberg World Championships sticks in my head. It was so loud, and the support was epic!" (slidingonice.com, 28 Jun 2021)
"I don't really have one but my inspiration is definitely my Uncle Paul." (owia.org)
Husband and skeleton slider Dom Parsons (GBR), 2018 Olympic bronze medallist. "Coaching-wise it’s really nice that he’s not an athlete anymore because it means I can pick his brain and there’s no conflict of interest and he can be a bit more open, which has definitely helped me some!" (slidingonice.com, 28 Jun 2021)
"Everything happens for a reason." (bobsleighskeleton.org)
