Until 2007 he was a ski jumper at the sports school in Oberhof. "After I got a little too heavy and the perspective was no longer given, my trainer at the time advised me to just take the entrance test for the skeleton because I was always one of the best athletes in my training group. I passed the entrance test and after the first few trips on the track, the sport grabbed me and I stuck with it." (dpsk.de)
