Until 2007 he was a ski jumper at the sports school in Oberhof. "After I got a little too heavy and the perspective was no longer given, my trainer at the time advised me to just take the entrance test for the skeleton because I was always one of the best athletes in my training group. Milestones

Won gold at the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games.

Two-time World Championships gold medallist (2020, 2021) and two-time team silver medallist (2015, 2017). Only two athletes before him have managed to defend a Skeleton World Championships title: Ryan Davenport (CAN) in 1996 and 1997, and Martins Dukurs (LAT), in 2011 and 2012, and at four consecutive World Championships in 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2019. The 2021 World title was a three-way tie for gold with Geng Wenqiang (CHN) and Matt Weston (GBR).

Three-time World Championships medallist with the team (2019 gold, 2015 and 2016 silver).

Won World gold in the 2021 Mixed Team with Tina Hermann.

Two-time Junior World champion (2012, 2015) and two-time silver medallist (2012, 2014).

Total of eight World Cup podium finishes, with two victories (2017 in Altenberg, 2021 in Innsbruck). The first podium finish was in 2012 in Winterberg (bronze).
