Father Manfred Maier (Bobsleigh): Former bobsleigh pilot and coach of the Austrian national team. He now serves as a development coordinator at the IBSF, as well as their COVID-19 coordinator.
Brother Raphael Maier (Skeleton): At the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games, he placed 19th. Competed internationally from 2008 to 2016. Best showing at the World Championships was 11th in the team event.
Brother Benjamin Maier (Bobsleigh): Competed at two Olympic Winter Games (2014, 2018), won a silver medal at the 2012 Winter Youth Olympic Games, and is a two-time World Championship medallist.
Sister-in-law Elisabeth Maier [nee Vathje] (Skeleton): Representing Canada, she finished ninth at the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games. Has competed on the World Cup tour since 2014/15. In her first season, placed third at the World Championships.
Weightlifting: Had a brief career but switched sports because discovered he was very good as a skeleton racer.

Fulfilling one of his childhood dreams by winning a World Cup medal (third in 2021 in Innsbruck on his home track). "I've been dreaming of a medal in a World Cup since I was a young kid, and I've been sliding since I was seven or eight. It started with fun, but now it gets really competitive and I am so happy about the improvements I made over the summer at the start. The material is working so, so good." (IBSF YouTube, 30 Jan 2021)
