General Interest

TIME OUT
In 2020 she took a year off from short track, using the time for a variety of activities including a stint working at Dunelm, a British home furnishing retailer. “I took a whole season out last year, which is quite a brave thing to do a year before the Games. I stayed home, worked to save money for the season, being an unfunded athlete and going through a pandemic had some added stresses. I just took a huge chunk of time out of sport to deal with all that. But I came back this year in a much better place for it. So it was definitely the right decision.” (teamgb.com, eurosport.co.uk, 22 Dec 2021)

LEAVING HOME
At age 16 she moved from Kilmarnock, Scotland, to live and train at the British short track base in Nottingham, England. "When I first moved down from Scotland I really struggled, it was quite daunting being in a big city and being quite young. I really wanted to stay in school and get my highers but it seemed like a once in a lifetime opportunity, which I had to grasp and see where it might take me.” (heraldscotland.com, 4 Feb 2018)
