November 2019: Triple fracture of the tibia and a fractured fibula in his leg after a training accident. He had a rod, nine screws and a plate put in his leg. Underwent three operations and suffered vasovagal syncope (loss of consciousness brought on by emotional stress) after one of the surgeries. Returned to the ice in May 2020 and trained with the women's national team before rejoining the men's team in September.
Late 2017: Ankle injury forced him to end his season early.
First tried skating at age three and began competing in short track, golf and ice hockey, focusing solely on short track at age 15. "When I was 15, the national golf and speed skating teams approached me. I had to make a choice. Golf [was] not a discipline represented at the Olympic Games, so I made this choice quite quickly!" (ici.radio-canada.ca, 11 May 2021)
"The adrenaline, the speed, that euphoric feeling of skating, nothing could be better for me." (ici.radio-canada.ca, 11 May 2021)
Win Olympic gold at Beijing 2022 after recovering from a serious leg injury in late 2019. “I wanted to come back for the 2022 Olympics at any cost because it is the Games where I have the best chance." (journaldequebec.com, 3 Mar 2020)
Short track skater Charles Hamelin (CAN), three-time Olympic gold medallist and 16-time world champion. "He is a silent leader, a model of champion that I aspire to become later." (ici.radio-canada.ca, 11 May 2021)
"My family is my strength. If I ever step on the podium, listening to the national anthem, I will receive my medal and I will think of them. If I manage to qualify for my first Games I will be honest, the only thing that scares me is that my family will not be able to be in the stands due to the pandemic. It's out of our control, I know, but not being able to live that moment with them would break my heart." (ici.radio-canada.ca, 11 May 2021)
