Initially trained in athletics before taking up short track at age nine in Dresden. "Athletics was often too boring and I was fascinated by the difference of speed that you have on ice and land. My brother was a figure skater and after his sessions, the short track speed skaters started training. It looked cool and my mother asked if I wanted to try it. I liked it a lot and continued." "Speed skating is something most people now know about. But in short track speed skating, you don’t race against the clock, but directly against the competition. You therefore need a lot of tactical experience. And the risks are higher, of course. The radius is much tighter with us. Short track speed skating is faster and harder. It’s also highly specialised." (redbull.com, 24 Feb 2020)

General Interest

RETIREMENT PLANS
Has said the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games will be her last. "I've already had three major injuries in my career. The last two years in particular have been extremely tough on my body. If you can't do anything with your friends on the weekend because you can't bend down, it's pretty frustrating." (muensterschezeitung.de, 26 Apr 2021)

BATTLING INJURY
Despite a number of injuries during her career, she says the fractured tibia and fibula in 2021 was the most challenging to overcome. "You ask yourself all sorts of questions. I never really said I'll leave. But I was very, very close to it. Sure, I thought, 'Why again? Why now?' Anything else would be a lie. But then you have to be able to switch relatively quickly, not dwell on these thoughts for too long. Because it's useless. That sounds so easy, but it wasn't."

She said that conversations with family and friends helped, but working with two sports psychologists helped most. "I have to admit that it was extremely difficult for me this time. I definitely learned, in general and about myself personally, that a lot goes on in the head. And that you have to be strong - then a lot is possible. When it comes to pain, too, a lot is a matter of the head." (sueddeutsche.de, 16 Nov 2021, welt.de, 11 Apr 2021)

TATTOO
Has a tattoo of the Olympic rings with a flower sprouting from them above her right ankle. Her grandfather designed the image. "The Olympics have been a long journey for me and will always be a part of my life. The flower symbolises the long distance to blossom, which starts at the bottom." (saechsische.de, 2 Sep 2020)

SACRIFICE
Gave up her long distance business administration course to focus on her short track career. "I didn't want to do things by halves. When I retire, I will only be 24 years old. Young enough to start studying again." (eurosport.de, 30 Nov 2021)
