Started ski jumping at age nine as part of the Get Out And Play program through the Youth Sports Alliance in Park City, UT. His father's home in Park City has a spectacular view of the ski jumps used during the Salt Lake City 2002 Olympic Winter Games and every day as a kid he could see the jumps. As soon as he was in the Nordic program, he fell in love with the sport and joined the Park City Nordic Ski Club only a few weeks after first trying ski jumping. (jaredshumate.net)
Goal for season 2021/22: to score World Cup points, qualify for the Olympic Winter Games, finish in the top-20 there and be the highest ranked athlete from the USA. (Athlete, Sep 2021)
